THE MIND SHARPENER:
REDISCOVERING AUTHORITY IN EDUCATION: A NEW OPPORTUNITY WITHIN AND BEYOND SCHOOL EDUCATION

“The Mind Sharpener” – a series of lively, thought-provoking talks and debates rooted in academic research but of general interest and open to everyone. Topics range from political theory to poetry, from violence in discourse to the origins of language. The idea is to bring the fruits of research to a wide and diversified audience, and let the audience become an active participant by raising questions, proposing solutions, engaging in the tasks and activities provided by the speaker. Everything will take place in an informal and cosy atmosphere, enjoying a cup of tea or a glass of wine. All the discussions will be held in English.
Nowadays, the notion of pedagogical authority gives rise to much discussion and various interpretations. Some authors argue that authority has no place in our postmodern world, and they stress this by using expressions such as crisis, extinction, erosion, sunset, eclipse; others are in search of new solutions, both practical and theoretical. A particularly original approach is offered by some philosophers and thinkers who have proposed an understanding of authority based on its etymological origin: the derivation from the Latin verb “augere” (to grow) points to an idea of authority linked to inner growth.
I explore this direction through a phenomenological-eidetic research carried out with Italian and Lithuanian teachers, interviewed with regard to their experience in accompanying the growth of the youth. The aim is that of rediscovering and revaluing the notion of pedagogical authority both ontologically and experientially. In this way, a new horizon of meaning opens up, one in which the word “authority” can befriend us again, lighting up our daily experience well beyond the world of school education.
Cristiana Barbierato is a PhD student of Education Sciences at Vilnius University, Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research interests cover the topic of teacher authority as a positive phenomenon contributing to the student’s growth. Cristiana is interested in eidetic phenomenology and its application in the field of education; she follows discussions and research development in Italian context. For more than 25 years she has been working as an Italian language teacher in schools and higher education institutions both in Italy and Lithuania.

IŠ NAUJO ATRANDAMAS AUTORITETAS EDUKACIJOJE: NAUJOS GALIMYBĖS MOKYKLOSE IR UŽ JŲ RIBŲ

“The Mind Sharpener” – tai gyvų, provokuojančių bei kviečiančių pamąstymams, pokalbių ir diskusijų serija, paremta akademiniais tyrimais, tačiau aktuali ir atvira visiems. Nagrinėjamos temos nuo politikos teorijos iki poezijos, nuo smurto diskurse iki kalbos kilmės. Šia renginių serija norima pasidalinti akademinių tyrimų vaisiais su plačia ir daugialype auditorija, bei įtraukti susirinkusiuosius į diskusijas: keliant klausimus ieškant sprendimų, įsitraukiant į užduotis ir veiklas parengtas kalbančiųjų. Viskas vyks jaukioje neformalioje aplinkoje su puodeliu kavos ar vyno taure.
Šiandien pedagoginio autoriteto sąvoka kelia daug diskusijų ir įvairių interpretacijų. Kai kurie autoriai teigia, kad mūsų postmodernistiniame pasaulyje autoritetas neturi vietos, ir tai pabrėžia, vartodami tokius žodžius kaip krizė, išnykimas, erozija, saulėlydis, užtemimas; kiti ieško naujų praktinių ir teorinių sprendimų. Ypač originalų požiūrį pasiūlė keletas filosofų ir mąstytojų: autoriteto sampratą pagrįstą jo etimologine kilme. Kildinant šį žodį iš lotyniško veiksmažodžio “augere” (augimas), autoritetas siejamas su vidiniu augimu.
Šią kryptį nagrinėju per fenomenologijos-eidetikos tyrimus, atliktus su italų ir lietuvių mokytojais, prašant jų įvertinti savo įtaką jaunimo augimui. Šio tyrimo tikslas – atrasti ir iš naujo įvertinti autoriteto sąvoką pedagokikoje, tiek ontologiškai, tiek patirties požiūriu. Taip atsiveria nauji horizontai, kur žodis “autoritetas” gali vėl tapti draugišku mums, bei nušviesti kasdienę patirtį, kur kas toliau už mokyklinio ugdymo ribų.
Cristiana Barbierato yra Vilniaus universiteto Socialinių mokslų fakulteto, švietimo mokslų doktorantūros studentė. Jos moksliniai tyrimai apžvelgia mokytojų autoriteto temą, kaip teigiamą reiškinį, prisidedantį prie mokinio augimo. Cristiana domisi eidetiška fenomenologija ir jos taikymu švietimo srityje; Ji seka diskusijas ir tyrimų plėtrą Italijos kontekste. Daugiau nei 25 metus ji dirba italų kalbos mokytoja, mokyklose ir aukštojo mokslo institucijose tiek Italijoje, tiek Lietuvoje.
Šį kartą renginys vyks lietuvių kalba.
