“of things to come
or The reason why I don’t sit on roofs anymore”
In the roofs we sat daydreaming of all the great things we would do and all of the projects on the horizon. And we could almost see the horizon as the land was flat. We would make sense of it all. After all I used to think that one day I would find the perfect rhetoric to frame the work, deliver it perfectly packaged, with a bow, on white walls with diffused white light. Soon after I realised that in every work, there was an unavoidable approximation to the same story, playing in a loop. Eventually much of the same gets played again and I don’t think I ever got so far that a high enough point would not find me. But there is that moment, right after one loop closes and there is unknown territory, right before finding the way back to known lands. A point, truly and unequivocally made of things to come.

This exhibition is part of “Young Ideas” project – a series of cultural and artistic events focused on development of contemporary and innovative ideas, supporting young, up and coming artists, musicians and makers. The project is partially funded by Vilnius City Council.

Sėdėjome ant stogų svajodami apie visus didžius dalykus, kuriuos galėtume nuveikti, ir visus projektus mūsų akiratyje. Beveik galėjome matyti horizontą, nes kraštas buvo plokščias. Viskas turėjo prasmę. Galų gale, aš juk galvodavau, jog vieną dieną atrasiu tobulą retoriką, įrėminančią darbą, pristatysiu jį tobulai supakuotą, su kaspinu, ant baltų sienų su išsklaidyta balta šviesa. Greitai po to aš supratau, kad kiekviename darbe yra neišvengiamas artėjimas prie tos pačios istorijos, keliaujantis ratu. Galiausiai, daug kas ir vėl pasikartoja, ir nemanau, jog aš esu nukeliavusi taip toli, kad pakankamai aukštame taške tai manęs nerastų. Tačiau yra tas metas, iš karto po to, kai vienas ciklas užsidaro ir atsiranda nežinoma teritorija, prieš pat atrandant kelią atgal į pažįstamas žemes. Momentas, tiesiogiai ir nedviprasmiškai sudarytas iš to, kas bus.
