(false) memories – parodos uždarymas

Ši paroda kviečia apmąstyti iliuzijas, įaustas į asmeninę ir visuomeninę istoriją. Parodos menininkės nagrinėja selektyvų prisiminimų pobūdį, bei gilinasi į saviapgaulės fenomeną – naratyvų kūrimą ir įvykių rekonstravimą pagal asmeninius ar kolektyvinius tikslus.

Menininkė Natalija Gabalytė parodoje pristato koliažų kolekciją ir meninę instaliaciją „…and you did this… for what?“. Kūriniuose atsirandantys nostalgiški praeities fragmentai sudrumsčiami juose atsirandančių skausmą menančių simbolių, kalba apie kolektyvinės kančios randus išlikusius bendroje atmintyje. Taip menininkė meta iššūkį dažnai romantizuojamai praeičiai bei populiariojoje kultūroje kuriamam „senų gerų laikų“ vaizdiniui, netikrai praeičiai.

Tuo tarpu menininkė Mary Marinopoulou savo video instaliacijoje „Crises/Memories“ pristato technologijomis paremtą manipuliavimo atmintimi metodą. Jos pateikiamas distopinis pasakojimas nagrinėja intriguojančią nemalonių prisiminimų keitimo į penkerius gyvenimo metus bankomate koncepciją. Kūrinys ne tik atskleidžia įgimtą žmogaus norą išvengti neigiamų prisiminimų skausmo, bet ir apmąsto šiuolaikinę tendenciją problemų sprendimą patikėti technologijoms ir mokslui.

Apie menininkes:

Natalija Gabalytė baigė iliustracijos bakalauro studijas Londono menų universitete (University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Art) ir šiuo metu fokusuojasi į grafikos meną bei eksperimentuoja su kitomis medijomis. Jos kūryboje nagrinėjamos nostalgijos, okultizmo ir moteriškumo temos.

Mary Marinopoulou yra audiovizualinių instaliacijų menininkė ir kuratorė iš Graikijos. Peloponeso universitete baigusi teatro bakalauro studijas, o Vilniaus dailės akademijoje – fotografijos ir medijų meno magistro studijas, ji iš kino persiorientavo į audiovizualines instaliacijas ir kuratorinius projektus. Ją domina bendruomenės projektai, transformacinės kelionės ir ekologija, kurie dažnai tampa jos darbų įkvėpimo šaltiniu ar tema.

On January 27, 4pm, the closing event of the exhibition “(false) memories” will take place, during which we invite you to meet the artists and hear more about their work. The meeting will also include a discussion about memories, based on the answers shared by visitors of the exhibition on the Collective Memories Wall. This exhibition invites for a reflection on the illusions woven into personal and societal history. The artists explore the selective nature of memories and delve into the phenomenon of self-deception – the creation of narratives and the reconstruction of events according to personal or collective goals.

Natalija Gabalytė presents a collection of collages and an art installation titled “…and you did this… for what?”. The nostalgic fragments of the past that emerge in her works are darkened by symbols of pain, pointing to the scars of collective suffering preserved in the common memory. In this way, the artist challenges the often romanticised and false image of the past created in popular culture, using the narrative of the “good old days”.

Meanwhile, the artist Mary Marinopoulou introduces a technology-based method of manipulating memory in her video installation “Crises/Memories.” The dystopian narrative she presents explores the intriguing concept of exchanging unpleasant memories for five years of life at an ATM. The work not only exposes the innate human desire to escape the pain of negative memories but also reflects on the contemporary tendency to outsource problem-solving on technology and science.

About the artists:

Natalija Gabalytė graduated with a BA in Illustration from Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts London, and is currently focusing on graphic art, and experimenting with other medias. Her work explores themes of nostalgia, the occult, and the feminine.

Mary Marinopoulou is an audiovisual installation artist and curator from Greece. After graduating in Theatre (BA) from the University of Peloponnese and in Photography and Media Arts (MA) from Vilnius Academy of Arts, she shifted her main interest from cinema to audiovisual installations and curatorial projects. She is interested in community projects, transformative journeys, and ecology, which often serve as the inspiration or theme for her works.
