Manipulating time via sound in pure data | performance

Šis performansas yra mūsų 6-erių metų jubiliejinės parodos “Spacetime un[b]locked” uždarymo įvykis. Šį kartą Vygintas Orlovas, kurio kūrinys “Dangarsis” taip pat eksponuojamas šiuo laikotarpiu, pristatys darbą, atliktą naudojant “Pure Data” sistemą. Jo žodžiais:

“Vizualinė duomenų srauto aplinka Pure Data (pd) leidžia kurti rizomatinius, modulinius projektus, kuriuose kiekviena dalis gali sukurti naujus ryšius su kitais komponentais. Panašiai kaip naudojant kontaktų plokštę arba lituojant laidus ir elektroninius komponentus, iš kurių galima suformuoti skirtingus prietaisus.

Kūrybinėje praktikoje dažnai naudoju pd kaip įrankį, padedantį kurti ryšius tarp įvairių medijos formų ir jas patiriančio žmogaus.

Šiuo atveju noriu tiesiogine prasme vadovautis mintimi, kad “laikas yra plastiška terpė”, ir sukurti garso kūrinį, paremtą erdve ir šiame renginyje dalyvaujančiais žmonėmis. Šią idėją bandysiu įgyvendinti naudodamas nešiojamojo kompiuterio įmontuotą mikrofoną, granulinę sintezę, gyvą kilpavimą ir dažninę moduliaciją. Be to, šios patirties eigoje noriu dalintis ekranu ir paaiškinti / aptarti darbo eigą, kontekstą ir kai kurias svarbias idėjas.”

This performance is the closing event of our 6th anniversary exhibition “Spacetime un[b]locked”. This time Vygintas Orlovas, whose piece “Dangarsis” is also exhibited during this period, will present his work using pure data. In this own words:

“The visual data-flow environment of Pure Data (pd) allows the creation of rhizomatic, modular projects where each part can form new connections with the other components. Rather like using a breadboard or soldering wires and electronic components to form different devices.

I often use pd in my creative practice as a tool for forming connections between various forms of media and the person experiencing it.

In this case, I want to follow the idea that “time is a malleable medium” literally and create a sound piece based on the space and people participating in this event. I will try to achieve this idea via the use of an inbuilt laptop microphone, granular synthesis, live looping and frequency modulation. Furthermore, I want to share the screen of my workspace and explain/discuss the workflow, context and some relevant ideas as we progress through this experience.”
