Today I was thinking about our last trip to San Francisco, which was already a few months ago… And I remembered there is still one recommendation we never got to share with you. So while memories are still quite fresh I have to mention this, De Young Museum.
I believe this museum is one of the most popular among tourists and locals, and there are a few reasons for that. First of all it holds a large selection of American art from the 17th through the 20th centuries, textile arts, and tribal/folk art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. Apart from that there are temporary exhibitions that might also be worth checking out. It is not just the exposition that attracts visitors, but also the impressive modern architecture, the location and beautiful surroundings.
The museum is situated at the entrance of the charming Golden Gate Park that also offers a great selection of other interesting sightseeing activities. The park itself is surrounded by great neighbourhoods worth checking out.
I know that a lot of visitors coming to the city also want to see the panoramic view with the contrasting characteristic architecture of San Francisco. De Young Museum is just perfect for that: it has a tower with a beautiful view to the city from above, accompanied by a large scale map for you to form a better understanding of this gorgeous place.
So the trip to De Young Museum can be a great day out in San Francisco and a perfect excuse to have a long relaxed afternoon in the park and its neighbourhoods surrounded by the ocean.
