In our western world everything is based on perfection and competition, without having time to think about it. But I believe we should all slow down a little and start feeling the beauty of simple things, imperfections and incompletions. All of this goes down to a beautiful Japanese world view Wabi-sabi, in other words ‘wisdom in natural simplicity’.
Inspired by this Japanese aesthetic Brooklyn based artist Elaine Tian creates her thoughtfully designed ceramics. She works behind her brand named Studio Joo, where gorgeous minimalist pieces are born. All Elaine’s ceramic creations have a balanced composition, combining random marks and lines with plenty of empty space… What a beautiful harmony!
